Joana Monteiro
Rua Cândido dos Reis nº5,7

Giving voice to the letters immediately transmits a sense of democracy, remembering the importance of each person’s voice, in this huge collective that is all of us. In the text written by João Pedro Mésseder, each letter of the alphabet speaks in the first person, emphasizing and exploring its own graphic aspect, associating it with personal characteristics and bringing it closer to the “real world”. The book “Vozes de Letras” was composed and printed in mobile characters by the master typographer Rui Damasceno, and it is also the home of these typographic illustrations created from types of wood and lead, zincogravures and other graphic material existing in Tipografia Damasceno, in Coimbra. The final product, in which word and image dialogue, and each other complement each other, also intentionally evokes visual poetry and poetic experimentalism.
