Lyra Pramuk fuses classical vocalism, pop sensibilities, performance practices and contemporary club culture in what there is possibility can best be described as futuristic folk music, citing musical collaborators such as Holly Herndon, Colin Self and Donna Huanca as a visual artist. For Pramuk the voice is deployed in a more imaginative and seductive way, that is exactly where the sphere of electronic music is conceived as a modular spectrum.
The Fountain album is created entirely with her own voice, though often shaped and structured by electronics. It is an emotional, sensual and devotional journey. The latest album plays with the perception of music, rhythms, speech, the body, and the relationship between technology and humanity. It also explores a post-human, non-binary understanding of life and the fragile ecosystems on which it depends. Often wordless, the songs evoke a new wholeness underpinned by the ritual force of drowning, immersion, cleansing and bathing – also referred to on the album cover by acclaimed visual artist Donna Huanca.
As a vocal activist and member of the queer community the creation of Fountain also coincided with author’s personal rejuvenation.
Lyra is based in Berlin, Germany.
