Bob Harris (Bill Murray) is a middle-aged actor who is in Tokyo to promote his latest film. His marriage is worn out and he feels melancholic and dissatisfied. At the hotel, she meets Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), the young wife of a photographer who finds herself alone in Tokyo, while her husband works in other Japanese cities. Between them, one begins to establish a relationship of empathy and to feel that they speak the same language, in such a distant place and where both feel lost.
