Bendik Giske is an artist and saxophonist who uses physicality, vulnerability and resistance as tools of expression. Giske unites the building blocks of electronic music and plays live, without layers or looping, to the best of his abilities, allowing all the flaws of the human being to emerge. He cites Lindstrom’s arpeggio sounds and Evan Parker’s circular breathing as references and, combining the two extreme sides of the scale, fuses free-form jazz and club music. As a composer, Giske has made original works for dance and theatre, and as a performer he is as versatile as he is fascinating.
Surrender is a mesmerising debut that will lead its viewers through a journey of euphoria and desire to discover the nights spent in Berlin’s nightlife. The artist uses little more than his voice and saxophone. With blow, steel and muscle, Giske transmutes his clubbing experience through the saxophone.
